Dear Mother,

    Once more I have pleasure in

writing you a few lines from sunny France.

I am still going on well, and getting the

time filled in not so badly. Since last

letter I've had another motor-lorry trip -

this time to the town of St. Quentin, which

you will remember was mentioned very often

during this war. One of our lorries was

going down there with a Frenchman`s flitting,

and the officer very kindly allowed me to

go with the driver, to see the country. St.

Quentin is about 34 miles south of

Cambrai, and we passed through a district

which has seen some of the hottest conflicts

of the war. At one time it has been a

pretty countryside, but now all the villages

are in ruins, and the fields cut up with

trenches and disfigured with barbed wire.
