was not going to miss that especially as leave

was very hard to get then at the best of times

well after this we started training so severely that

I think if it had been Peace times and they had done

the same with the Regular Army they would have

all Deserted for sure we had nothing but field

days Night attacks Drilling all Day when it was

wet in the County Hall anyway as that was all we

saw of the Army Previous I suppose it came natural

to us as we had not seen the best side of the army

we had a good move to get a day of if you were

not sick and that was to take your boots

to the Stores to have mended and you were

sure of having to wait 2 or 3 Days for

them as you were not the only one who

Learnt the Dodge and having no Spare

Pair of Boots it was Impossible to Parade

So you had to sit and read in your Billit

all Day you could not even have light

duty as you had no boots to go out in well

what you did have they wasnt to no were

they we had carried on this training until

the Second week in October when we were

ordered to Braintree for Digging Trenches

for Coastal Defence we were here about

3 Weeks and we had a Ripping time we

happened to click very nice billits here

but were I was billited on my own there

was one old chap in this house who was

Stone Deaf so I could not say much to him

and he used to have an old Lady companion

come in every night who used to kid me

to sing Hyms with her which was for

the Old mans benifit who could not hear
