Tell Kenneth Daddy says he is to give you a

real big kiss from me. I hope you are all

fit & well. I am A1 but I feel as if I should

like to live and sleep above ground for a

few days - but not just here. Wouldn't it

be just lovely to go off to Sandsend for a

whole month and forget that there is such

a thing as war. Would it be good for the

fighting spent do you think, or shouldn't I

want to come back again? Duty in two places

pulls somewhat at times Sweetheart. Especially

when one's wife is as lovely as you are. Take

lots of care of yourself my own. I tell myself

that I shall soon be with you - only unfortunately

I haven't very much power in the matter. What

I have I must use & I know that the happenings of

the past three months have taken more out of

me than the rest of the time out here. I don't

mean that I am not fit, but I am less contented

than I was before. I know one does not get a reward

for doing one's duty but I can't help thinking

I have not been treated as well as I might have

been & it is only in the past few weeks that I

have been really able to put that thought into

the background & do the job that was nearest

& be pleased to do it. A rest with you would put

me square again more quickly than anything else.

I am quite all right now Lassie. I have got a
