My Own Darling,

  It was very nice

receiving a letter from you this

afternoon. I was feeling very

lazy & it "bucked" me up real

well. After writing to you

yesterday I had a long walk

round the line. Thanks to the

frost the trenches were not

bad and the going was good.

The Boche were in a quiet mood

and did not trouble us with

any of his surplus shells. It is

rather an amusing part of the

line. Some of my posts are

within thirty yards of the Boche

posts and he (the Boche) shouts out in

the morning "Good morning

Tommy, How are you." It is too
