morning to go on a Tactical Scheme.

Most of the officers were out but

very few of the men. I was on

the Directory Staff & had very little

to do. I attached myself to

another Bn & told them when the

attacks were successful - when

they were being shelled &c. I had

to walk miles & miles across

country - very nice but rather

tiring. We had a conference

afterwards & I got back to my

billet soon after 5 pm. I am

very pleased to see in the

paper that Col Johnson got

a D.S.O. - he has thoroughly

deserved it. I had a letter

from Mrs. Huggard which I will

enclose & also one from the Padre.

I was glad

to receive your No. 27. I am afraid
