has paid the great sacrifice for
there could have been little chance
of his being taken prisoner & in
any other event he would have
been able to let Mary know what
had happened to him. I am awfully
sorry I cannot send a message of
hope for Mary. I have a good idea
where he was & so many things
might have happened though
usually there is some trace. Do
you know if any official report
has been made - if not you
might write to his C.O. for particulars.
Perhaps it might be advisable for
you to do that. You needn't tell
Mary until you got a reply - or
if you like I will write if you
would send me Will's number
& the name & no of the Regiment.
No it wasn't a rigmarole it
was a lovely letter from my wife
