  My Own Darling,

         I didn't get a letter off

yesterday + this will only be a short note.

We woke yesterday to find a "white world." We

had a parade  for the presentation of medals

+ as soon as we dismissed from that

were ordered to move up here. I got off

half an hour late + landed up in

these trenches. We were fortunate

enough to get a sort of dug out

but my men were under trench

shelters. However it was only for one

night so it might have been worse.

We soon had a fire + hot tea + were

then more or less cosy for the night.

I didn't find my trench coat and one

blanket too hot but I didn't feel

cold. To-day we have been looking

round to see that all is correct +

at dusk we move up into the

line - which is quieter than when

we were last there. I have still

no news except that I am fit

+ well. I hope to be able to write

lots of letters when I settle into

my new HdQrs - but I don't know

whether I shall get the time yet
