No 15

12/12/17

My Own Darling,

  I think this should be

No 15 as my last two were both 13.

Instead of moving further back I am a little

further forward for a few days. It seems

to be much safer here & I have exchanged

the tent for a wee dug out. It is only

three feet high in the middle but it

is dry & fairly comfy. We built a larger

one to-day for a company mess. Had the

pleasure of doing it twice because a

pole that looked strong proved that

it wasn't by letting the roof fall in

just as we had finished. Fortunately

no one was inside so we only had

a little extra work. It is very strange

being in this area & looking back on

the trenches where we used to live.

I haven't any real news. In spite of

the mud, frost & dirt I am still

keeping very fit & well. I had a

letter from the C.O. enclosing a photo

which was taken when I went

over to M/C to see him. It shows him

in bed with Mrs. Johnson, the nurse

& I round the bed side. It is

quite a good one & I'll send it to

you someday. Days pass very

slowly although "John Bull" says
