  My Own Darling,

    Our communications

  are not so good as I have

  known them before but I 

  hope they are improving steadily.

  I am very fit & well and

  enjoying a fairly strenuous

  existence. My leisure time

  is very liable to interruptions

  and my plans subject to 

  alterations. Some day we may

  again strike a restful place

  and then I must make up

  for my lack of letters. I was

  delighted to receive your last

  two letters and Kenneth's enclosed.

  I'll try & answer them to-morrow.

  I feel lonely at times also Lassie

  even when the Boche shells are

  keeping me company. Perhaps the

  war will be over soon & then

  we shall be together again for

  more than a few days. May our

  fellows prove to the Boche that he

  is in the wrong quickly so 

  that the peace may come.

    I love you Darling & I hate

  being away from you. It seems
