My Own Darling,

I hear there is a post

going this afternoon so must

write to you. Yesterday we

arrived here and stayed in

a field for four & a half hours.

After that we moved to our

"Billets." Mine was not very

inviting but as we were

tired we made the best of

them & turned in for a sleep.

I had a perfectly good spring

mattress & enjoyed a long

rest. This morning we set

to work as an improvement

society. We got rid of the mud

& rubbish first of all. Then

we constructed a table & a form
