  I'll try & answer the letter

you wrote on your birthday. I am

sorry mine was not with you

to greet you on the morning.

Many thanks for the parcel & the

excellent cake & biscuit, pâte choc

& lanoline: also for the journal.

I'm glad McI has got a living

at - I've forgotten the name again.

We didn't have a bad time in

the trenches for our last tour. Unfortunately

young Owston got badly hit just 

before we came out and died of

wounds the next day. He was a 

very nice boy & we are sorry

we have lost him. Glad to hear such

good accounts of Kenneth. I also

had a letter from Daisy. I had

a letter from Hamton & they were
