is excellent. Thank Harry for the

live beef they took a good sample

& should prevent the Boche

starving a few people. Yes there

are plenty of cattle in the district

- good & indifferent. Do you remember

seeing Spring at Grantham he was

in the sixth & then on the staff?

He came to see the C.O. yesterday & he

is now a Brigadier General. I met

him about six years ago at

the Depôt. To-day has been a

lovely day. I went to church parade

this morning & this afternoon went

for a good ride on Sally. The country

is fine for riding across. There are

practically no hedges. The fields

are separated by little dykes varying

from a foot to three feet wide
