My Own Darling Wife,

It is 8 am & I am sitting up

in bed in the Hospital smoking my

pipe & writing. It is strange to think

that such a short time after I came

on leave that I should be on the

sick list. Only the day before I came

to bed I was thinking how fit &

well I was keeping. This complaint

is a queer sort of thing however &

strength & fitness is evidently not

a sure protections against it. I have

been trying to find out how long I

shall be before I am allowed to

return to duty but no one will

give me any idea - some men

are a few days - some between two

& three weeks & some even longer.

I do not think that anyone

ever feels real bad only just

washy & pain in the legs. I
