My Own Darling Wife

         Many thanks for the parcel

of good things and your letter which I

received just before lunch. We started

our rest training at 6.45 am this

morning. I was turning our quite early

and almost before parade time the GOC

rolled up. He must have had a touch

of liver for he was in a bad temper. One

could not expect too much from the

men for it was their first real parade

for a long time. However he told me to

get all the officers + NCOs together and

tell them that the drill was "sloppy"

+ bad. I did so + then he said a few

words of prayer. He wasn't so bad as he

might have been and sure there

were enough visible faults to give all

the Generals in the Army a chance of

talking. The rest of the morning

passed off pretty well. I spent all
