My Own Darling Wife,

When you wrote your letter of

the 10th I was just setting off on a round

of the front line so was really beginning a

day as you were ending yours. I am real

glad the toys delighted Kenneth for you

see I had just to trust to luck when I

sent the cash. I told them he didn't want

a Teddy or a Barrow. Sorry to hear of

Jackie being unwell & hope he is better

by now. It would relieve Maud Kathleen

living with you. Sorry Kenneth caught

a cold & hope it went quickly. Glad

Alice has done so well for you.

No, one does not feel inclined to

bathe in shell holes for somehow or other

the water is usually bad & I have seen

men covered with sores as a result

of using the water for shaving &c. - Besides

it is a military crime to use the water
