It is hard luck on Hooper but he won't
really have to take off a "pip" as he will
get acting rank whilst commanding a
Coy. I think he has thoroughly earned
permanent rank - much more so than
Salaman, Newton & others who were originally
in the first line and are still on the
strength, though holding soft jobs in
England. Eking goes fail to Capt also
Fancy Nobby & Hall being senior to Hooper now
though. He had probably reckoned on
my being senior but certainly had
given no thought to the others. However
he is a jolly good soldier and out
here an excellent company commander
& if he gets a chance will get on well
- provided the war lasts.
Am afraid this "blues my chance" for
that six week course but then I don't
