  War is a fine game & may be

the sport of kings, but its glory has

departed under modern conditions. Shells 

& big guns deal out death & destruction

but it is only by the pluck & determination 

of the infantry soldier that battles &

ground are finally won. Money & materials

are necessary to smash up the enemy

materials but that is only the start

- engineering & mechanical effort engaged

in systematic destruction. The infantry

sit in front & wait - they protect the guns

& keep the enemy on the jump as much

as possible. The guns finished wave

after wave of men surge into the

Boche defences - a slow solid advance;

then the final madding rush followed

by hours of feverish toil to make

defences that the enemy infantry

cannot penetrate. Then the same old
