their way barred over the Lille, and  inserted above "and": but had  crossed unchallen  ged 

by going boldly over singing "Der Wacht um Rhein".

R  is this an isolated case of the value of this

refrain. I may add the French don't use quite the

same words as in the original. Probably in this

case they kept to the copy.
