the war will end sometime and

we trust in some way good will

result to the nations of the

earth, although today I must

confess my faith is not

strong enough to see the way.

   Now in this veritable

slough of despond, what is an

advocate of peace and arbitration

to say and do? Must he give up

his hopes and admit that force

is the supreme arbiter of man's

destiny, that might makes right

is a true principle of action?

Must he give up the advocacy

of the sway of peace and turn

his energy to preparing his

country to meet the enemy?

On these questions there is a multitude

of varying belief

On that awful Sunday morning
