‘I’d rather have Daddie than Santa–this Xmas.’
Title in English
A British sentimental postcard.
‘I’d rather have Daddie than Santa–this Xmas.’ is the caption running along the bottom of the illustration on the front of this postcard, which was produced, according to the printed information on the reverse, by ‘Inter-Art Co., Red Lion Square, London, W.C.’. Of ‘BRITISH MANUFACTURE THROUGHOUT’, it is ‘No. 1643’ in the ‘“XMAS” Series.’. The name of the artist (it appears below the Christmas stocking) is difficult to read, but he or she has portrayed a boy clearly gesticulating towards a photograph of a British soldier on the mantelpiece behind him. There is a handwritten address on the reverse: ‘Master W Hardman / 27 Scott St. / Warrington [then in Lancashire]’, along with a message: ‘To Walter / From Dad’.
