On his cap is the badge of the East Yorkshire Regiment, he has the insignia of crossed flags on his right sleeve showing he is a Signaller, there is a cloth 'W' above the flags, and a single chevron below them denoting his rank of Lance Corporal.

    It shows, and he was a member of a 'Pals' Regiment. I wondered if the other man was his brother, but cannot find anything to substantiate this, looks like he was a 'brother-in-arms' only.
