Arrived at Khargpur. Where we had
Breakfast Bread Tea & jam here we
Were greeted by a Gentleman formally
Of Workington who was very pleased
To see us & presented each man with
½ day oranges & gave us a great send off
Arrived at Howrah had Dinner of Bread
Water & Meat. Left Howrah 4-30 &
Arrived at Calcutta Docks at 11:00 P.M.
& went on Board the Boat – S.S.
The City of Marseilles & slept all night
On a table.
Dec 7 1914
Sailed from Calcutta about 7-30 a.m.
Although the Descado was so very bad it
Was a palace compared with the City of
Marseilles which was only a Cargo boat. The
Crew was composed of Black men & there
