as to bring the bursts to the proper height
Sweeping
When a target wider than a Battery is engaged
it may be divided into portions which are engaged successively
or else the fire may be spread over the whole target
The target is divided into two parts for the two sections
and each of these again divided for each gun, Each gun
then fires alternately at right traverse, centre, left traverse,
and so on, so as to cover the target allotted to it. In practice
sweeping is not usually carried out with minute accuracy
as stated, but the flank guns are given an amount of outward
deflection estimated sufficient to cover the target, and
the sweep of the guns is ordered in round numbers, as
one degree right and left.
Sweeping is also used for the same purpose as Searching
when the exact direction of a concealed target cannot be
determined
Concentration and Distribution
The order is "Concentrate 10 minutes on No 1" or
Distribute 10 minutes from No '. In the burst case No 2
