April 27 Friday

Battery all day

2pm Issued orders 5 rounds gun fire

which was being carried out. Infantry

General happened to be coming along the road

on horse back. Dismounted and came

rushing to me in hasty temper,

saying, (in front of the men) "Who is

firing these guns"? I answered, "I am

Sir". "You ought to Bloody well know

better than to fire when I am passing

on a High Spirited Horse. I nearly went

into the Bloody ditch. The war won't

finish any sooner for keeping the guns

waiting a few minutes.

I suppose you don't Bloody well know

anything about a horse. I shall

report you." "What is your name.

Did not reply to his speech, but thought

enough, whilst he was leaving away.

     Reported him to the Colonel.

50 rounds on 2 hostile batteries.
